    GHS show homes in Africa

Africa is the continent of the future.

The average growth rate of African countries in the last ten years has been over five percent, and the economic outlook is currently excellent. With its rapidly growing human capital, Africa is already a preferred destination for European companies. Far from the pictures boats illegally crossing the Mediterranean, the country offers space and ground for foreign investors. In the future, potential buyers will be able to view GHS’s show homes in six African countries. A total of twelve show homes – with a floor space of 40, 70, 80 or 104 m² – were or will be erected in the coming weeks in South Africa, Namibia, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Zambia and Angola.

    A continent’s real face

GHS with trade fair booth in Tunis and Abidjan

The Les Rencontres Africa congress organized by the French Foreign Ministry aims at showing the real face of Africa and bring together business partners who want to invest on the African continent. The fair took place at the beginning of October almost simultaneously in Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Nairobi (Kenya) and Tunis (Tunisia). More than one thousand international managers took the chance to meet. GHS is already counting large parts of Africa among its core markets and attended this year’s Les Rencontres Africa congress with its own booth for the second time: GHS’s General Manager Alexander Khinast and sales partner Ekkehard Redlhammer (Dynaxity) spent the 5th and 6th of October in Tunis while GHS sales partner Philippe Raffier (Dynaxity) visited Abidjan a few days previously.

    The fast-safe-simple house

During a live presentation, customers and interested parties were shown how quickly and easily a GHS Temporary Home can be assembled.

The key feature of the GHS system is its simplicity. A Temporary Home can be erected in just a few steps thanks to prefabricated elements. As a result, customers all over the world can use local qualified personnel for the erection of these houses and are not dependent on Service teams from Europe. On 11th May, selected customers and interested parties were shown “live” just how easy this is. The guests were able to convince themselves of the simplicity of the system on-site. The GHS fitters assembled wall elements in only a few minutes. The fully-assembled exhibition house is now standing at our premises in Ried im Traunkreis and can be viewed at any time.

A project with “added value” in Erftstadt

In Erftstadt, refugee housing has existed for some time in the form of containers. When further accommodation was called for by the German Government, Peter Schranz and his team at GHS won the tender convincingly.

Erftstadt is situated west of the city of Cologne and has taken on the task of offering assistance in times of large migratory flows. As a result, huge container villages were erected relatively quickly in an industrial area which were intended to provide accommodation for the incoming asylum-seekers. However, the German government wished to generate still more sleeping places, and put this project out to public tender. Besides the usual container solutions, alternative suggestions were permissible, and it was this fact which attracted the team from GHS. “The idea was to work in a cost-saving manner, and additionally to achieve better thermal insulation than is possible with containers”, explains Project Manager Peter Schranz.

The Temporary Home by GHS is based on a timber-frame construction; a high-quality foam filling serves as a shell, and all “the extra bits” play both a role in the statics as well as acting as thermal insulation. On 7th March 2017, four completely identical buildings with a total utility area of 1400 m2 were assembled on a large green field, each featuring rooms measuring 12 m2 for two people. In addition, there are also small communal rooms, kitchens and washrooms in each house. The project was successfully completed on 11th May 2017, after a construction period of only two months.
